Youth Work at Seymour House
The primary purpose of Youth Work at Seymour House is to provide a system of informal education, training and support which young people voluntarily participate in, and which assists them in the transition to adulthood. It will offer a variety of contexts, approaches and environments to help enable young people to make their own decisions, acquire a range of practical and social skills, confront their prejudices, address issues of inequality, learn about their relationships, explore their values, take responsibility for their own lives, respect others and express their views.
Seymour House is fully committed to all of the young people who engage with us, we are interested in not just the issues and problems they may present, but also the problems they may experience in their transition towards full adult responsibility. The main components of our work revolve around: drug and alcohol awareness and prevention, health education, self-esteem and confidence building. These are all framed within a focus on pro-social skills and relationship building that can allow our young people a real opportunity to grow beyond the limits of their present life situations and into the full experience of active citizenship and happy, healthy lifestyles, to raise their own aspirations and build the resilience needed to maintain positive choice making.
Working in partnership with various agencies such as social services, schools and educational welfare, our Day Programme works hard at supporting those young people most at risk of the dangers that exclusion from school carries. Through various activities and individual support we as a team, journey together with our young people to explore the difficulties that bring them to us here at Seymour House. |
